Self Insurance

Since 1st Jänner 1998 slightly persons employed, who live inland, have the possibility, of insuring itself in the ill and in the pension insurance.

This possibility exists also for slightly busy free service taker inside. One speaks here of the “option model”. The goal of this regulation is to include those slightly person employed more strongly than so far into the social security

Note:
An unemployment insurance does not exist also for insured slightly persons employed! Despite option slightly persons employed receive from there no achievements from the unemployment insurance such as unemployment pay and state of emergency assistance.

After the purchase of week money however requirement on full care of children money exists. During the week funds purchase the care of children money in the height of the amount of difference between the lower week money and the full care of children money is entitled.

Unemployed person-insured are not also house provision gutters, which obtain a slight payment and are nevertheless full-insured. Naturally a requirement on achievements can result from the unemployment insurance from an earlier unemployed person-insured service relationship.

The costs the self-insurance
Who makes use from the option model, has an overall contribution in the ill and pension insurance to pay. This amounts to in the year 2003 43.65 euros monthly. The amount is to be paid also then only twelve times per year, if that receives slightly person employed special payments.

The contribution is service taker inside equivalent high for female workers and employees as well as for free. It is revalued with 1st Jänner of each yearly. The contribution is independent of the actual payment.

e.g.: Who refers monthly wages of 70 euros, has him likewise to pay, as someone, which earns 309.38 euros monthly. That slightly persons employed has to deposit the contribution with the health insurance company. The health insurance company prescribes the contributions afterwards with paying-in slip. That happens up to 15. the subsequent month.

Thus you insure yourselves

The self-insurance must be requested. The request is to be placed with the health insurance carrier, which would be responsible for the obligation insurance after the domicile of the applicant. This self-insurance can be only requested both for the ill and for the pension insurance together: It forms a unit. It is not intended that one insures oneself about only in the pension insurance.

The self-insurance begins with the start of the occupation, if the request is placed within 6 weeks after this time. Otherwise with the first day after the filing of an application. That is not i.e. only then the case, if a recent request is placed and the earlier self-insurance ended in certain way, by withdrawal of the person employed or, because the contributions were not paid.

Then it begins at the earliest at expiration of three months at the end of this earlier self-insurance. The self-insurance ends, if the conditions for it are omitted, if the person employed withdraws or if it does not pay the due contributions.

If one does not deposit the due contribution within two months at expiration of the month, for which he is to be paid, ends the self-insurance at the end of the month, for which a contribution was paid last.

The self-insurance always ends at a monthly last one, because it is intended that the contributions are monthly made. If the service taker is logged out during the month, the contribution is to be paid thus still for the whole month: It comes to no meet-wise Aliquotierung of the monthly contribution, although the self-insurance did not exist on all days of the month.
  1. And those are the advantages of the self-insurance:

      Slightly persons employed, in the ill and pension insurance “in-opt themselves”, received in principle all payments in cash and special from the health insurance. Also slightly busy free service takers receive sickpay with option.

      Contributions of equipment are for example:
      • Patient treatment (medical assistance, cure and welfare-manage)

      • Institute care (hospitalization)

      • Dental treatment and denture

      • Medical assistance and midwife assistance with maternity

      • Payments in cash (in particular ill and week money - for ill and week money fixed amounts exist)

          • If no exception of the obligation should be present, for coinsured member the auxiliary contribution to the health insurance to pay to have, a slight occupation of the member with self-insurance will more cheaply come in many cases than the collateral insurance.



          Medical insurance card by the health insurance company are issued. Selfinsured slightly person employed have themselves the medical insurance card if necessary to procure.

      3. In the pension insurance insured slightly persons employed acquire contribution periods.

        For students the option is a favorable opportunity to acquire cheaply contribution periods in the pension insurance which would have to be bought in addition otherwise later expensively.

        Also for marriage wives, who are only slightly busy, the self-insurance is favourable, because they are thus coinsured in the health insurance with the marriage partner only and would be otherwise not pension-insured.

        It is recommended in principle much to make of the possibility of the self-insurance when slight occupation use.


      Note:
      The self-insurance has thus also in relation to the collateral insurance, approximately with spouses, advantages:
      • The self-insurance provides also a requirement on payments in cash, while only contributions of equipment receive co-insuree.

      • With institute care (hospitalization) even only the board sharing of costs becomes due for the insured one, which is lower than the hospital sharing of costs for member.

      • If no exception of the obligation should be present, for coinsured member the auxiliary contribution to the health insurance to pay to have, a slight occupation of the member with self-insurance will more cheaply come in many cases than the collateral insurance.
